Akhmat suffered a 1–2 home defeat to FC Spartak Moscow in the Matchday 15 fixture of the Russian Premier League.
Spartak’s Pablo Solari scored twice, striking in the 36th and 52nd minutes. Georgiy Melkadze pulled one back for Akhmat on the 60-minute mark.
After the match, Stanislav Cherchesov shared his thoughts and answered questions at the post-game press conference:
— Did the match unfold the way you had expected?
— For the most part, yes. In the first half we allowed the opponents some space, while in the second half we held on to the initiative. We felt that playing open football against Spartak wouldn’t be the right approach. I’m pleased with the players’ commitment — they carried out the instructions — but unfortunately, you don’t earn points for effort alone. Congratulations to Spartak on their victory. We look forward to having our players return from their national teams and continue performing for us with the same enthusiasm.
— What was missing for a positive result?
— We lacked something in the final third. We executed what we had planned, but we’ll review the rest in detail.
— Did it seem to you that Spartak played more pragmatically than usual?
— That’s for their coach to assess. We clearly understood what we wanted and saw the elements we had worked on.
— How would you summarize the first half of the season?
— The result is roughly what we expected. Naturally, when you take over a team in the lower part of the table, there’s a lot of work to be done. But we still need to find stability and keep moving forward. We had a strong run, and now we need to understand where we have dropped off. At the moment, I am not satisfied with our results.
