Ferencvaros to face Budapest Honvéd in Hungarian Cup quarterfinal today, 1 March

Ferencvaros will face Budapest Honvéd in the Hungarian Cup Round of 8 match today, on the 1st of March. The cup tie will take place at Új Bozsik Aréna stadium in Budapest. Kick-off is at 20.00 CET.

Budapest Honvéd was established in 1909. The team enjoyed a golden age during the 1950s when it was renamed Budapesti Honvéd SE and became the Hungarian Army team. The club's top players from this era, Ferenc Puskás, Sándor Kocsis, József Bozsik, Zoltán Czibor, and Gyula Grosics helped the club win the Hungarian League four times during the 1950s and also formed the nucleus of the legendary Hungarian national team popularly known as the Mighty Magyars.During the 1980s and early 1990s, the club enjoyed another successful period, winning a further eight Hungarian League titles. They also won league and cup doubles in 1985 and 1989. In 1991, the club was renamed Kispest Honvéd FC and adopted its current name in 2003.

“As this is a cup tie everything will be decided in a single match. We tried to prepare properly for the match. We watched Honvéd’s most recent matches and discussed different scenarios. In my opinion, Honvéd performed very well in the league match against Puskás Academy on Saturday although it ended in a 0-0 draw. Budapest Honvéd has a great stadium and a good team, I also know that this club is among the major rivals of Ferencváros. The cup match is very important for us and it offers an opportunity to win the title this season so we will do our best to secure a win on Tuesday”, said Cherchesov to the official website of Ferencvaros before the match.
